As a baby, Jade was constantly sick suffering headaches, nausea, skin abnormalities, high blood pressure and more. After several months of doctor appointments and misdiagnoses, Jade was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder; she was only 18 months old.
“It’s frustrating and heartbreaking as a parent to see your child suffering, knowing you can’t fix it,” Jade’s mom, Shonna, said.
Since her diagnosis, Jade has endured daily medications, countless invasive procedures, bone biopsies and chemotherapy. As time went on, her symptoms progressed. She faced problems with her organs and vision, resulting in new medications and visits to the emergency room several times over the past year.
Jade was smack in the middle of what she would remember as the worst year of her life when Make-A-Wish® Minnesota revealed she would be granted a wish. With her passion for listening to, and playing, country music in mind, Jade wished to go to the 2017 CMA Awards.
“I could look forward to something other than being sick,” Jade said. The anxiety of needle pokes, procedures and medications melted away as Jade imagined and planned every moment of her trip to the awards.
In November, Jade’s family arrived in Nashville for the 51st Annual Country Music Association Awards. After touring the city, Jade put on the new dress and boots she had bought for the event and headed to the red carpet. She was “over the moon” when she saw all the glamour and met her favorite artists!
Jade’s wish not only gave her something to look forward to, but also gave her happy memories with her family.
“We have never seen her smile so much, laugh so much and just enjoy life,” Shonna said. “I don’t know if there will ever be another event in her life that will compare to the sheer joy she experienced.”
