The past few years have been rough for Tianna. She has been battling a life-threatening gastrointestinal medical condition.
Recently, Tianna ran across photos of her wish to go to Hawaii taken 16 months ago. The photos brought back precious memories of laying on the beach, soaking up the sun, the smell of the ocean and the scent of the wonderful tropical flowers.
Not only did memories of her wish warm her up on a cold Minnesota winter day, Tianna needed the memories of her wish more than ever on that day. “The funny thing is… I was having an extremely rough day, let alone an extremely rough couple of years, and all of the sudden I came across one of the best experiences in my life,” Tianna said.
“Words can’t express how thankful I am for being granted a wish. It has shown me that there are things out in the world worth living for and seeing, so that gives me another reason to keep on being strong and not letting my disease get me down,” Tianna said.
Tianna has dreamt of going to Hawaii since she was little. “On the first week of every school year, I have always gotten a paper from every teacher asking, “Things About You.” One of the questions has always been, “What is your dream vacation?” Since kindergarten, my answer has always been a trip to Hawaii,” Tianna said.
Tianna’s wish to Hawaii came true in August 2012. When she arrived at the hotel, she was struck by how beautiful the lobby was. “I was thinking how much more beautiful can it get...? Then I went out on the balcony and there was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, the ocean, and that was at night. I couldn’t wait to get up the next day and go across the street to feel the sand and look at a palm tree and go into the ocean,” Tianna said. She learned how to surf and got to enjoy zip line during her wish trip, something she has always want to experience.
“I will never be able to show you how much the trip truly meant to me but I wanted to thank you again, for the experience of a lifetime,” Tianna said. “I also wanted to tell you how honored and blessed I still feel to this day, that I got a chance to experience one of the best gifts in the world, granted by such an amazing foundation. I will never forget it.”
