Emma: I wish to go to Hong Kong

Emma

“ Something as simple as granting a wish can change a kid’s life forever. ”

- Emma

Emma has battled cystic fibrosis since she was an infant. However, she does not let that stop her from living life to the fullest. Five years ago, Emma had the opportunity to add “World Traveler” to her list of accomplishments when her wish to go to Hong Kong came true.

During her adventures in Hong Kong, Emma and her family immersed themselves in the Chinese city, saw panda bears, and rode on cable cars, all while absorbing and learning about a new culture. Memories of her wish continue to sustain her.

Emma’s wish gave her joy to offset the struggles of living with a critical illness. Today, Emma is looking forward to graduating from high school in the spring. She is busy planning for her college years and hopes to eventually pursue a career in art.

“I would like people to know that I’m so extremely grateful for everything everyone has done for me to get me on my trip, to get me home, and to make sure I’m happy with my life. I would also like them to know that with something as simple as granting a wish, it can change a kid’s life forever,” Emma said.

“Just knowing that others care enough to acknowledge our family’s struggles and go above and beyond to help take our minds off of the daily trials we face, if only for a week, is very touching. We carry that gratefulness with us always,” said Jenni, Emma’s mom.

Emma has stayed connected with Make-A-Wish Minnesota, participating in fundraising events helping raise funds to grant wishes for other Minnesota kids, giving them the hope, strength and joy she experienced during her wish.

I will always remember our make-a-wish vacation as simply magical. To be able to put worries on hold for a week and feel like your whole family is being loved and cared for, in the midst of your child be seriously ill... What a blessing. My daughter's wish was 26 years ago.
She experienced so much love and care during her 7 1/2 years of life here on earth. Thank you Make-a-wish!

That is a very touching and inspiring story. We are currently awaiting the granting off a wish for my son who had a kidney transplant. The past year has been rough with many complications. We look forward to a great name year and hopefully a trip to Atlantis!
