Hannah is your typical teenager. She loves to spend time with her friends and participate in her church’s youth group. Music is also Hannah’s passion. She enjoys writing and performing music. However, her life was turned upside down when a lump on her neck turned out to be Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“We were faced with a lot of fear and shock,” Hannah’s mom, Sandra, said. “I instantly wondered what our future would hold.”
Hannah endured months of chemotherapy to treat the cancer. She constantly felt ill and spent several days at a time in the hospital, resulting in missed school and events with her friends. “I was sad a lot,” Hannah said, “I felt like life was happening all around me while I was stuck being sick.”
During this difficult time, Hannah turned to music to lift her spirits. When Make-A-Wish® Minnesota told her she would receive a wish; Hannah wished to have music recording equipment to share her story with the world. “I want there to be something positive that comes from all the sickness,” Hannah said.
In April, Hannah’s wish came true and she was presented with a new guitar and laptop with recording software. She was thrilled and couldn’t wait to start recording original songs.
Sandra will always remember Hannah’s wish with a full heart. “Facing cancer is so very scary,” Sandra said, “and the thought of losing a child is indescribable. Make-A-Wish® brings an element of light into a very dark place. A light that has the potential to carry on long after the wish has been granted.”
Hannah now looks to her future with hope. She looks forward to leaving the pain and sadness of her diagnosis behind as she dives into the joy of creating music with her new equipment.
