Born with a congenital heart defect, seven-old-year Riley has endured more than 12 heart procedures, including four open heart surgeries. Despite the challenges of living with a life-threatening medical condition, Riley is a happy child finding joy in fishing.
When his Make-A-Wish volunteers asked what his wish would be, Riley knew right away – he wanted to go deep sea fishing! This past May, Riley and his family left their worries behind and headed out to the ocean hoping to catch the big one; and as he stood in the sun admiring the fish on his hook, Riley’s wish was complete!
Riley and his family will never forget the time they were able to spend together in Florida. “The highlight for us is being able to see a BIG smile on Riley’s face,” said his parents, Paul and Krista. “Make-A-Wish has given us a lifetime of happy memories that we will cherish. Make-A-Wish has helped us take some of his pain away when we could not. We cannot thank the Make-A-Wish organization enough for this experience.”
Riley’s wish will continue to sustain him for what may still be a difficult road ahead. “We do know that these little things like ‘wishes’ are big things that give us strength,” said Krista.
