“ The smile on his face said more than words could have. ”

- Erika, Ace's mom

Each week on Ace's way to chemo treatments, his mom would drive by the airport. He imagined all the different places he would like to go. He told his mom some day he would love to go see Mickey at Walt Disney World® Resort.

Diagnosed at the age of two with a brain tumor, Ace has had many ups and downs. He has missed out on many childhood experiences such as family vacations. When his volunteer wish granters informed him his wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort was coming true, Ace was so excited he was ready to go!

Ace’s magical adventure began when he boarded a Sun Country Airlines flight. The crew at Sun Country Airlines made his first airplane ride special. Gate agents presented Ace and his siblings with gifts and he even got to meet the pilots!

Ace’s wish was everything he had hoped for and more! When he saw his favorite character, Mickey Mouse, Ace gave him a hug so big, his family thought he’d never let go. He was full of energy throughout the entire trip, and was smiling the whole time.

“I hadn’t seen a smile that big on his face in a long time. He smiled bigger and laughed harder than he had in a long time. I have never seen him so at ease,” said Ace’s mom, Erika. “It said more than words could have.”

Although it rained on the day Ace went to Magic Kingdom, he did not let a little rain ruin his fun. “I have never seen a kid so excited! He danced in the rain and just had a look of amazement on his face the whole time. His favorite ride was the Peter Pan ride,” Erika said.

Flying home after the week in Florida, Ace and his family were met with the same kindness from the Sun Country crew. Ace even got to yell goodbye to Mickey Mouse over the loudspeaker at the gate as they boarded the plane!

Today, Ace’s wish continues to sustain him, giving his strength. Shortly after returning home, his doctor informed Ace and his family that he would need another 18 months of chemo treatment.

“His doctor was busy discussing our options and Ace blurts out that he went to Disney World and that he is a wish kid. He began to tell his doctor all about the trip and Ace laughed with excitement. It turned what could have been an awful day into a tolerable one. His happy little face and the excitement in his voice broke the tension in the room. Everyone took a deep breath, and we geared up for this next journey,” Erika said. “The wish really does have a lasting effect.”
