From five heart surgeries to countless nights in the hospital, Abby has endured a lot in her young life. After being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect before birth, her family has had to learn how to balance a busy home life with constant doctors’ appointments and medications.
When Make-A-Wish® Minnesota asked Abby what her wish would be, she thought about her favorite things. She loves to dress up as a princess, and has missed spending time with her siblings during long hospital stays, so a week-long trip to visit all the princesses at Walt Disney World® Resort was a must!
After much planning, Abby and her family were off to enjoy some time with her favorite Disney® characters, as well as the sights and of the Orlando theme park.
They finally had the opportunity to spend quality time together and put thoughts of all things medical out of their minds. There was no thinking about what appointment was next on the calendar, or wondering what the next thing it to worry about would be. Abby and her family were able to focus only on having fun together for the first time in years.
“The wish was beyond what we could have ever imagined for Abby,” Abby’s dad, Matthew, said, “and it provided her the opportunity to do so many things that we had never thought possible for the past few years.”
This much needed respite gave everyone a renewed energy and hope to keep fighting Abby’s diagnosis. "Make-A-Wish® allows dreams to come true for kids and their families,” Matthew said. “Our trip was really honoring to Abigail and all that she has endured. We will never forget this opportunity.”
