Our friends at Komfy Kozy have been providing personalized blankets to nearly every wish child this past year. They have donated over 200 blankets to date! They continue to provide these comforting keepsakes each month, and have committed to donating an amazing, 350 blankets.
Komfy Kozy is a nonprofit organization that began with an 11-year-old, Kendall Emfield, who enjoyed making fleece tie blankets as a hobby. With the help of her grandmother, Laurie, she started to think of ways her hobby could be used to help others. She first began making blankets for children in the hospital and their siblings, delivering 40 – 50 blankets at a time. Shortly after, she added Make-A-Wish Minnesota. Making blankets for Make-A-Wish requires a lot of time and hands. They first select just the right pattern to match the child’s wish and interests, then wash, cut, and tie each blanket by hand. She and her grandmother often rally friends and family members to help at “Blanket Parties,” held at one of their homes. Helpers carefully cut, tie, bag and tag, for an entire afternoon, and the blankets are then delivered to wish kids.
Komfy Kozy partnered with Make-A-Wish last fall, and has become a favorite enhancement to many wish children. The blankets help to provide kids with comfort, security and memories from their wish experience. Kendall says, “Nothing is as rewarding as putting a smile on a child’s face.”
Thank you Komfy Kozy, for giving hope, strength and joy to Minnesota kids.
