National Family Volunteer Day
November 21, 2015

National Family Volunteer Day is HERE and we want your family to join our "family" in helping others. Here are some ideas on how you can get involved:

  • Write letters for the Macy's campaign
Macy's and Make-A-Wish are celebrating the seventh year of the Believe campaign. This annual campaign is based on The New York Sun's famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" editorial.Beginning in November, believers of all ages can bring their stamped letter to Macy’s addressed to Santa at The North Pole, and drop it in the special letterbox. Or, new this year, create and send a letter online. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1,000,000. When you create your letter online or on your mobile phone, you can help set a new world record for the longest wishlist to Santa. To find a Macy’s store near you or to submit your letter online, visit

  • Hold a toy/gift card drive to support the office
Our supplies for Wish Bags (these are items brought to the initial meeting for wish children and their siblings) are constantly fluctuating depending on how many wish visits occur each month. Typically, we would give each child a bag with about $10-15 worth of toys, games, etc; to break the ice during their first visit with a Make-A-Wish volunteer. Consider hosting a toy or gift card drive and sort/package the toys for our kids on your volunteer day. Donations will need to be dropped off at our office in Minneapolis.

  • Organize a fundraising event and donate funds to Make-A-Wish Minnesota
Host a car wash, bake sale or organize a silent auction or happy hour. There’s really no limit to the possibilities. If you raise $6,500 or more, you can sponsor a specific child’s wish. More information can be found here.

  • Lights, camera, action! Create a short video to sendoff a wish child
Create a short send-off video for a wish child as they wait for their wish to be granted. Use the video camera on your phone and have members of your group share a special message, building excitement and anticipation! Watch a sample video here.

  • Have your own idea?
Be creative. Get inspired. Let’s see what ideas YOUR FAMILY has. We only request one thing – photos! Post. Share. Tag. Comment. We want to see what you’re doing so we can see just how much of a difference we can make!
